Defense Access Systems Built Around Your Assets
SafeSmart designs and manufactures portable height access equipment for aircraft, vehicles, and marine maintenance. We work with your team from the first consultation through design, manufacturing, certification, and delivery.
Get equipment that fits the asset, supports the task, and is practical to use every day.
The SafeSmart Advantage
Since 2007, SafeSmart has supplied height access equipment through a worldwide network that includes the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
Our in-house designers, production team, and independent certification processes bring technical knowledge and manufacturing experience to your project. You work directly with us to define the requirement, review the design, and confirm the details before manufacturing begins.
We draw on previous projects to improve how each platform fits, moves, and supports the work. The aim is straightforward: equipment that meets your requirements and delivers value throughout its working life.
Capability by Operating Environment
Who We Serve
We support defense organizations, aircraft manufacturers, airlines, maintenance providers, and contractors. Our wider experience spans construction, mining, transport, and pipeline industries.
SafeSmart has designed and supplied aviation stands for Boeing, Airbus, CHC Helicopters, Babcock, The Helicopter Company, the Australian Defence Force, U.S. armed forces, and defense and aviation operators supported through our UK network.
Our stands are also used by airlines including Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin, Air New Zealand, and United Airlines. This experience informs the design of equipment for frequent use, close aircraft access, and movement around maintenance facilities.
From Consultation to Commissioning
Define the Requirement
We start with your asset, maintenance tasks, working heights, site conditions, and delivery needs. Site visits and input from your operators and technical team help us establish dimensions, clearances, loading, and handling requirements.
A thorough scope gives you a quote that reflects how the equipment will be used.
Develop the Proposal
We assess whether an existing product, configured system, or custom design best suits the task. Your proposal includes pricing, conceptual drawings, and examples of previous work where relevant.
Together, we confirm the scope and commercial details before detailed design begins.
Review and Approve the Design
Our designers prepare 3D CAD models and drawings for review with your team. For aircraft stands, this includes modeling against the relevant aircraft and theoretical fit checks using available CAD data.
You can review dimensions, access positions, and operating clearances before manufacture. Minor dimensional and design adjustments within the agreed scope can be made during this review at no additional cost.
Designs are checked against the local and international standards applicable to the project. Manufacturing starts after you approve and sign off the drawings.
Manufacture and Inspect
Manufacturing takes place in our ISO 9001-certified factory. Each stand undergoes a quality assurance inspection, receives a serial number, and is marked for release.
Safe working loads are recorded on the drawings and certification plates. Each work stand is supplied with a certificate of conformance, with independent certification provided as required for the project.
Deliver and Commission
We package and ship the equipment to your site. Larger platforms may arrive in sections to meet transport limits.
Where required, our team supervises assembly, checks the completed platform against the approved drawings, and commissions it before use.
Work Stands Designed for Daily Use
Our custom aluminum work stands use high-tensile 6061-T6 extrusions, primarily in box sections. This construction combines strength, corrosion resistance, and manageable weight for frequent movement and use.
Features are selected to suit the stand and its operating conditions:
- Access around the asset: Sliding platform sections and shaped decks can accommodate varying aircraft and equipment profiles.
- Secure footing: Ridged aluminum treads provide grip, with slip-resistant fiberglass step nosing where specified.
- Aircraft surface protection: Rubber or foam buffers protect designated contact areas. Materials are selected for the intended conditions.
- Movement and positioning: Heavy-duty wheels and towable configurations suit the agreed handling requirements. Smaller stands may use non-towable wheels.
- Parking and stability: Lever-operated brake systems are available where specified.
- Defined capacity: Worker numbers, tools, and equipment loads are considered during design, with the approved safe working load marked on each stand.
Outdoor use and towing requirements are addressed during design. The supplied instructions define the operating limits for the finished equipment.
Support After Delivery
Your equipment arrives with safety, assembly, operating, storage, and maintenance instructions. These include step-by-step guidance and maintenance intervals to help your team establish its work procedures.
For platforms delivered in sections, assembly supervision and sign-off can be included as required. Our team confirms that the assembled equipment matches the approved design before commissioning.
If an adjustment or modification is required after delivery, our technical team can coordinate the work, including qualified personnel such as welders where needed.
Global Presence and Local Support
Our network of offices, warehouses, and distribution locations includes Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Auckland, Christchurch, London, Los Angeles, New York, Cleveland, and Regina, with locations in France and Chile.
This reach connects local project coordination with experience from access projects across industries and countries.
Sustainability
We review how our manufacturing activities, branches, and facilities affect the environment. This includes opportunities to use recycled materials, conserve water, improve energy use, and reduce carbon impact.
Our focus is on practical improvements to day-to-day operations and how we use resources across the business.
Your Questions Answered
Can You Adapt a Stand to Our Aircraft or Equipment?
Yes. We assess the asset, task, and operating space to determine whether an existing stand, configured system, or custom design is suitable. For custom equipment, you review and approve the drawings before manufacture.
What Documentation Comes with a Work Stand?
Each work stand is supplied with a certificate of conformance and instructions covering safety, assembly, operation, storage, and maintenance. The project scope confirms any further certification and documentation requirements.
Can You Help with Assembly and Commissioning?
Yes. Where required, we provide assembly supervision, check the equipment against the approved drawings, and commission it before use. These services are confirmed as part of the project scope.
How Do We Share Technical Drawings?
Start with an overview of the asset, maintenance task, location, and timing. Your regional team will arrange the appropriate channel for detailed drawings and technical information.
